Colm Cooper Visits Scoil Muire Agus Padraig

AIB Swinford welcome renowned Kerry footballer Colm Cooper to AIB Swinford and Scoil Muire agus Padraig. Hope the school enjoy the skills training day with Colm Cooper and wishing the U16 girls team all the best in the All Ireland Final on Thursday 26th March.

U16 Girls in All Ireland Final

Swinford Killasser Ladies GFC wishes the best of luck to the Scoil Muire agus Padraig U16 girls in the All-Ireland Final.

Swinford will play Scoil Criost Ri of Portlaoise in the final on Thursday 26th March at 12:30 in Tubberclare, County Westmeath.

Defibrillator Training

Defibrillator Training has been organised for Saturday 28th March in the Gateway Hotel from 11am to 6pm.

Please contact 087 1037993 if you wish to be included for training.

Remember defibrillators are located twenty four hours in lobby of Gateway Hotel, on wall of Dr. Glavey’s surgery, the club house at Swinford GAA and at Midfield and Meelick church. Please make yourself aware of these locations and remember they can save a life. This course is highly recommended for everyone.

Riverbank Clean Up

A riverbank clean up is arranged for Sunday 29th March by East Mayo Anglers. The assembly point will be at Ballintemple upper car park at 10am.

It is hope to remove rubbish along the riverbank for approximately three hours and a barbecue will be held in the car park at 1pm.

All volunteers are advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear – bring rubbish pickers if you have them – the organisers are looking forward to see you all there.

A Monster 25 Card Drive in aid of Meelick Community Centre will be held in Mean Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford on Good Friday 3rd April at 9pm.

€1000 in prizes. Tickets €10 now on sale.

“Grow Your Own” Gardening Talk

More and more we realise the importance of knowing where our food is sourced. What could be better than growing it in the safety of your own garden?
Learn how to do just that in this month’s Gardening Talk in the Gateway Hotel on Tuesday 31st March at 8pm.

Eamon Duffy will give a talk on “Grow Your Own” and both experienced and novice gardeners will find this most informative. At the end of the talk there will be an opportunity to ask Eamon questions and to share your own gardening tips.

There will also be a bring and buy table plus a raffle on the night. Everyone is welcome to attend. The entrance price for non members is 5 euro but why not take this as an opportunity to join the Swinford & District Gardening Club.

Michael Davitt CCE Cake Sale

Michael Davitt CCE will be holding a cake sale in Scoil Muire agus Padraig on Easter Sunday. The organisers have had fantastic cakes, bread, buns and desserts for sale at their previous cake sale and hope their friends will be busy baking again this year. Please come along and pick up a tasty treat or two!

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s draw was worth €1011 and was won by Eamon Howley and his nephew Shane McNulty.

The next draw will take place in the Gateway Hotel at 9pm on Tuesday 31st March.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses.
They are now available at 3 for €5 and you can also play online.

The club would like to thank all our sellers of tickets, the players for going out every weekend selling tickets and everyone in the community who purchased envelopes. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Swinford Tidy Towns Good Friday Spring Clean

Swinford Tidy Towns Annual National Spring Clean will take place at 11am on Good Friday 3rd April.

If you have an hour or two to spare, please come along. We will be meeting up at the No Name Club on Chapel Street, Swinford at 11am on Good Friday morning. Tabards, gloves, litter pickers, rubbish and recycling bags will be provided by Swinford Tidy Towns on the day.

We had a very successful clean up in the Spring Clean last year, with the help of 24th Mayo Swinford Scout Troop along with Scoil Muire & Treasa Green Schools.

The members of Michael Davitt CCE sincerely thank all the people who supported their recent table quiz in aid of the Mayo Fleadh. It was a very enjoyable night and they thank everyone who took part or helped run the event.

Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Draw

Killasser Community Centre is 35 years old this year and in order to support the future maintenance and redevelopment of the centre and its associated grounds, the committee has decided to commence a 50/50 development draw.

It will be a monthly draw costing €5 to enter and the first draw will be held in Frank’s Place on Sunday 5th April.

Swinford Drama Group Production

The members of Swinford Drama Group will be staging two one-act plays in Swinford Cultural Centre on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April. Currently two different groups of local amateur actors and actresses are busy rehearsing under the guidance of director Pat Moore.

“What’s For Pudding” by David Tristram and “Double Take” by Clement Shevlin are both comedies and you are guaranteed a great night’s entertainment.

Doors open at 7.15pm and first play begins at 8.00pm.

Everybody is welcome to attend for what will be an enjoyable and funny production. Please do come along and support the shows during its run.

St. Patrick’s Day Musicians

Congratulations and well done to all the wonderful musicians who provided excellent entertainment from the viewing stand for 45 minutes before the Swinford St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

It was a lovely grouping of senior and junior musicians including Jimmy Murphy, Rob Thornburgh, Margaret Waters, Paddy McDonnell, Terry Coleman, Alannah Thornburgh, Stephen McDonnell, Avril Kneafsey, Katie O’Brien, Brid Gleeson and Sarah Toner.
