County U14 Champions, Minor A Finalists & Ciara Plays in Croke Park
Swinford Killasser U14s Are County A Champions
Swinford Killasser Ladies U14 girls completed a remarkable Treble on Monday last when they defeated Westport in the County Championship A Final. Winning this final makes the girls County Division 1, County A Championship & Connacht Division 1 Feile Champions for 2015.
This County Final was played in bright sunshine in Parke. And, although Swinford Killasser went on to win comfortably; the end result could not have been predicted in a tight opening quarter. Both teams exchanged points early on, and Swinford Killasser lead by three to two, when they were reduced to fourteen players mid-way through the half. The ten minutes of this sin binning was probably the defining period of this Final. Rather than dropping their heads, the Swinford Killasser girls dug deep and really worked for each other. This work was rewarded when Maeve Gallagher crashed home a cracking goal in the twentieth minute. And, when they returned to fifteen players Swinford Killasser pushed further ahead before the break. Westport rallied in the opening stages of the second half to narrow the gap. But, a move involving all three O’Neill sisters mid-way through brought any hopes of a come back to a shuddering halt. Eimear O’Neill finished this move to the back of the net; and Swinford Killasser could start celebrating.
Winning one title in your footballing career is the ambition of most players. The U14 girls of Swinford Killasser are in dream territory, by winning three major Titles in two months. Orla Mullaney again collected the Cup on behalf of her team mates, and Chloe Moore deservedly won the Player of the Match Award. And with good reason, this group of wonderful friends celebrated together as 2015 County A Champions.
